OK, if you had to pick ONE snare for your all around, general purpose drum, what would it be? There are two that seem to come to the top: Ludwig L400B and Black Beauty.

I don't own either and would love feedback from the rest of ya'll to see if I can REALLY (doubt it) narrow it down to JUST ONE!!!

Confusing tho, cuz if there IS just one, then why do these two keep creepin up to the top? I guess the rest is left to affordability, availability, constructability, tuneability, aestheticability, and oh, yeah, religion... LOL!!!

Dunnet.Period.(custom to the highest degree,and cheap{if yer Canadian),and frickin loud)
or:-Ludwig Black Beauty
-any signature Yamaha snare(especially the Akira Jimbo,JR Robinson,Steve Jordan snares)
-or my first love,Pearl.The contradiction of the Drum business;leads the pack,or follows the pack,BUT,makes incredible technical leaps with drum shell innovation.Chad Smith sig. snare would do fine
-A custom Kepplinger snare
-a custom DW snare.
My heart lays with Dunnet though.Incredible snare drums.Too bad Ron doesn't do endorsements,hed be rich if he signed me,lol(joking......sort of)........................................beats.

I've heard really good things about the Dunnett snares, but have not played one in person. I should go check one out...

Although I do not own one at the moment, the plain ole Ludwig Acrolite does it for me.

I have a DVD of Vinnie Colaiuta playing one. If it's good enough for the master, it's good enough for me.

I have a 59 Gretsch COB, same as Vinnie. Great drum.
I also have a few Dunnetts, awesome drums.
My fav is a 6x14 SS with wood hoops, this one of my work horse all around sounding drums.

I recommend checking out a company called CLE drums out of Maryland. I had the pleasure of playing a 6x14 (6 ply maple, i believe) snare and it was the most responsive drum i've ever played. Just regular ambassadors tuned medium tight. Full bodied at all dynamic levels and crack for day's.
